The PLAB 2 Masterclass

A two day, communication focused crash course designed to help international medical graduates smash the PLAB 2 exam.

The Curriculum

  • Saturday: 1-1 workshop

You'll master your clinical communication skills with a one to one workshop delivered by an expert tutor. Identify strengths, improve upon weaknesses and develop your exam technique ahead of Sunday.

  • Sunday: Mock Day

You'll receive a full 16 station virtual mock with individualised feedback, run by real doctors working in the UK.

Okay, but why THIS course?

......because you want the best possible chance of passing the PLAB 2 on the first attempt.

  • Expert tuition: our tutors are native UK doctors from top medical schools who have excelled in their clinical examinations and have in-depth knowledge of working in the NHS.

  • High yield: clinical communication is a key skill that reaps rewards across all stations. The better you are at speaking, the better you'll be able to articulate yourself as a doctor.

  • Mock exams: Practise makes perfect. Our course includes a full day of virtual mock exam circuits, examined by real doctors from around the UK and featuring personalised feedback for each candidate.

  • Flexible learning: The course material is available to access at any point during the week, depending on what suits you. The only live components of the course are the 30 minute 1-1 sessions and Mock Day

  • 100% resit-proof guarantee: If you attend both days but fail your PLAB 2, we'll offer you additional 1-1 tuition and a place on a future virtual mock day. All at no extra cost.

FAQ

  • What will I gain from the 1-to-1 tuition?

We will hold a 1-to-1 session with each and every student who enrols onto the course. The session will be held with one of our PLABMed tutors who will address each student’s individual strengths and weaknesses in different clinical scenarios. Our tutors are UK doctors who have trained and worked in the NHS, meaning that they will have an expert understanding of communication skills and how the NHS functions. These sessions will focus heavily on interpersonal skills and how to communicate clinical information effectively to patients. We will also share tips and tricks on how different stations are designed to trip up candidates and how to avoid making these mistakes.

  • What will I gain from the mock examination?

The exam format will be 16 stations, exactly like the PLAB 2 exam. You will receive both verbal feedback after each station, and a written report summarising comments from your examiners. This means that the examiner will explain what went well and what can be improved immediately after each station so that you can best understand and recall the events of the station. This type of vital feedback and practice will then help you to acknowledge your areas of weakness and, most importantly, how to improve upon them.

  • What is the benefit of PLABMed vs other academies?

PLABMed focusses on mastering communication skills and having reliable structures - this is the most effective method of boosting your chance of success in the PLAB 2 exam. This approach is NOT focused on memorising cases. It is about equipping you with the correct communication style and frameworks in order to tackle any situation that the PLAB 2 exam can throw at you.

  • Who are the PLABMed tutors?

PLABMed tutors and examiners are all UK doctors who have trained and worked in the NHS. As UK graduates, they have interacted with hundreds if not thousands of patients, and this means they have an extensive amount of experience in how to communicate with patients effectively. And that forms the basis of what they will teach you in this course.

  • How should I prepare for my PLAB 2 exam after doing the weekend course?

Practise, practise, practise… PLAB 2 preparation is all about practise. Once you have finished the 2-day course, you will be put in touch with other IMGs who have also sat the course who you can practise with. Ultimately, if you implement the feedback given to you by the examiners, and you practise regularly in the lead up to your exam date, you will put yourself in the best position to smash the PLAB 2 exam.
